What is Boudoir?
Historically, it was a sitting or dressing room reserved for the female inhabitants of a household. However in photography, it is often connected with images of a person, usually female, in a bedroom setting.
A boudoir photo session for many is about giving empowerment to the subject. To make them feel sexy, desired, and wanted. If done correctly it can be a real source of confidence, a self-esteem builder for the model.
For this reason, I genuinely believe every woman should experience a boudoir photoshoot, even if it is a one-time occurrence.
For most specialist boudoir photographers, when I ask them why they do it, they say it gives them real pleasure seeing someone come into the studio who is doubtful of their ability and self-worth only to see they leaving at the end of the day beaming with radiance.
As a model, I am most well known for my lingerie and boudoir style images. For me , it is a fun and liberating experience. It allows me to take on different personas dependent upon what I choose to wear. I can be the innocent shy and retiring housewife or the intoxicating temptress. It can be light and airy as well as dark and sultry. You can choose as little or as much skin to show with the garments you decide to wear.
Boudoir photography is an art form in it's own right - some photographers can do it whilst others struggle. It's not just about taking photographs in a bedroom setting for the reasons given above.
However it is a sexy side of photography where women in all of their beautiful forms should be celebrated. Let us not forget that!
